If you’ve read our post on chicory root health benefits, you may already be looking for ways to incorporate more into your routine. Adding a small spoonful to your coffee pot is one way, but we have a recipe we think you will love!
Chicory root syrup makes a great addition to breakfasts, coffee, tea, or cocktails! It’s easy to make the syrup and it should keep in the fridge for about one week (if it lasts that long, yum!)
Shanti Tea's roasted chicory is rich and bold with woodsy, chocolatey, nutty flavours. It can be paired with light, sweet flavours to add a bold taste, or you can pair it with strong, rich flavours to add more depth.
Here are a few of our favourite ways to use the syrup:
- Drizzled over fresh crepes filled bananas and topped with walnuts.
- On regular pancakes
- In a cup of black tea instead of regular sweetener
- In a cocktail, 1 oz vodka, 1 tbsp chicory syrup, 2 oz sparkling water
- On top of ice cream!
Ingredients:
½ cup organic roasted chicory root
½ cup water
1 cup sweetener of choice (we used coconut sugar)
Directions:
Bring water to a boil. Add chicory root pieces and reduce heat. Simmer for 10 minutes.
Remove chicory root pieces. Add sweetener and continue to simmer until it reaches your desired thickness. Increase or decrease the amount of sweetener based on personal preference.
Pour through a fine mesh strainer and reserve in an airtight container once cool.
